A step-by-step guide to fitting, securing, and washing the UPPAbaby Remi organic cotton mattress cover so your playard stays clean and travel-ready.

Quick answer

Fit the UPPAbaby Remi organic cotton mattress cover by sliding it over the playard mattress and securing the corner tabs, then wash it on a gentle cycle and air-dry before each trip. Always check that the cover lies flat with no loose fabric before placing your baby in the playard.

Why the cover’s material and fit matter for travel

The Remi cover is made from organic cotton, which is soft and breathable against a baby’s skin. That matters on the road because playard mattresses are often slept on for naps and nights in unfamiliar places, and you want the closest layer to be clean and comfortable. The cover is designed specifically for the Remi full-size mattress, so it fits without the bunching you might get from a generic sheet. A secure fit is not just about tidiness—loose fabric can create gaps or ridges that make the sleep surface less even. The cover also protects the mattress from spit-up, diaper leaks, and travel grime, so you can strip and wash it instead of the mattress itself.

When to use it (and when not to)

Use the cover whenever the playard is used for sleep or supervised play, especially during travel when the mattress may be exposed to hotel floors, rental cars, or relatives’ homes. It is also useful at home as a daily barrier. However, if your baby is still in the newborn bassinet insert or uses a different mattress size, this cover will not fit—it is cut for the Remi full-size mattress only. Also, if you need a waterproof layer, this organic cotton cover alone is not waterproof; you may want a waterproof pad underneath, but check that any added layer does not make the mattress too soft or affect the fit of the cover.

Step-by-step: setting up and caring for the Remi mattress cover

Unpack and inspect the cover: Before each trip, unfold the cover and check for tears, stains, or stretched seams. If you see damage, replace it—do not try to patch it for sleep use. A quick inspection prevents a mid-trip failure.
Place the mattress on a flat surface: Lay the Remi full-size mattress flat on a clean, dry surface. Make sure the mattress itself is dry and free of debris before covering. A flat, dry mattress makes it easier to center the cover evenly.
Slide the cover over the corners: Start with one corner and gently stretch the cover over the mattress, then work around to the opposite corners. Pull the fabric snug but do not yank the seams. Working corner-to-corner reduces the chance of uneven tension.
Secure the corner tabs: Tuck each corner tab under the mattress and press down to secure. Run your hand across the surface to smooth out any wrinkles or loose fabric. A smooth, flat surface is the goal—check for any bunching before use.
Do a final fit check: Lift the mattress slightly and confirm the cover stays in place. Press down on the center and edges to ensure there are no gaps or ridges. The cover should be tight enough that it does not shift when your baby moves. If the cover slips or bunches, re-seat the tabs—do not use it until it fits securely.
Wash after travel or as needed: Remove the cover and machine wash it on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners. Tumble dry low or air-dry completely before refitting. Always dry the cover fully to prevent shrinkage or mildew.
Store folded for the next trip: Once dry, fold the cover flat and store it with your travel gear. Keep it in a clean, dry place away from damp items. Storing it dry and flat extends the life of the organic cotton.
